Stone Architecture in Alaçatı and Çeşme: What to Check
Conservation approval, stone-façade upkeep and what a renovation really costs.
Conservation status
Most buildings in the core of Alaçatı sit inside a protected zone. Façades, joinery and roofs need board approval, and unapproved work becomes a serious problem at the point of sale.
Looking after stone
The local sandstone breathes. Cement-based pointing and modern façade paint trap moisture and start spalling within a few years — lime mortar is the only correct answer.
What it costs
At 2026 prices a full restoration runs 18,000–26,000 TRY per square metre. Commissioning a conservation architect before you buy also gives you a defensible negotiating position.
